You've reached my website, photo gallery, and blog. I'm an amateur photographer, traveler, guitar player, and generally a geek about most things. I'm originally from Northern California, but was educated in the midwest and am now based the the mid-Atlantic region, where I work in higher education.
Currently I play guitar with Cat Elwell & Saucony Grass, a band based in Kutztown PA.
This website primarily (a) features my photography and (b) gives information and opinion related to music and (acoustic) guitars. Sometimes, when I'm lucky, I get to combine the two.
Essential questions (and answers):
Electric or acoustic? There's always a revolving door of acoustic instruments around here. I have been lucky to have instruments by Martin, Collings, Santa Cruz, Bourgeois, Gibson, National, National Reso-Phonic, Kevin Kopp, Taylor, Guild, Larrivée, Lowden, Paul Beard, Rickenbacker, David Dart, and David Cavins in the past (or currently), and I built an acoustic guitar a few years back.
Beatles or Stones? That's a hard one; growing up it was definitely Beatles, but over the last few years I've been on a Stones kick. Other musical influences include Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Lyle Lovett, The Jayhawks, Emmylou Harris, Alejandro Escovedo, Steve Earle, Richard Thompson, Johnny Cash, Norman Blake, and the Punch Brothers.
PC or Mac? Apparently my computing is on a 12-year cycle: Mac from 1984 to 1996 (when I started grad school); PC from 1996-2008. Currently Mac, at least until 2020.
Canon or Nikon? Nikon (but mostly Fuji).
Cats or dogs? Neither. Same goes for fish, reptiles, rodents, birds, and children.
